Here at Becoming Beautiful we love to see true beauty. Our definition of true beauty? Being beautiful in Him. And what could be more beautiful than reaching a lost and dying world with the gospel of Jesus Christ?
Today we want you to meet someone we consider to be a true beauty. Someone who is reaching outside of their comfort zone to do what God has called them to do.
Tell us a little bit about yourself?
My name is Courtney Copeland, I am 20 years old. I was born in Fort Worth, Texas, where I still live now. I went to the University of Arkansas and was a Business Economics Major. I love sports. I played all different sports in high school and won two state championships in basketball.
What is Reaction Tour?
Reaction Tour is a sports camp that goes into underprivileged areas around the world that uses sports, dance, and music as an ally way to reach kids and hopefully impact their lives with the Word of God.
When did God first put Reaction Tour on your heart?
The Lord gave me a vision for RT when I was on a mission trip my senior year in high school, in 2011. We were in Kampala, Uganda and the Lord showed me having a camp with the kids there. Since then, we have held a camp in Uganda and have 4 more camps planned for this next year in, India, Uganda, Mexico, and Haiti.
Growing up, did you see yourself serving in the ministry?
Growing up, I never saw myself being a part of the ministry. I was a pretty selfish teenager and thought that my plans for my life were better than the ones God had for me. But it’s interesting how, when we yield ourselves to God, He can instantly change our hearts. That’s what happened to me. I stopped attending The U of A and started working full time for the ministry. Reaction Tour is an outreach of Kenneth Copeland Ministries, where I am now employed.
When you look back, do you see areas where God was preparing you for Reaction Tour?
God definitely took time to prepare me for RT. The lord had to change my heart on servant hood. I thought that I needed to do things for the Lord, just because. I didn’t think it could really be enjoyable, but I was very wrong. The Lord knows the desires of our hearts. And when we obey him, He knows the thing to do to bring us the most joy possible at that particular time and place.
Tell us a little bit more about the name Reaction Tour?
The Lord actually told me to call these camps “Reaction Tour.” At first, I wasn’t really fond of it because I thought it was a little bit cheesy. But then, He gave me the revelation of it. The word “reaction” comes from the verse, Acts 1:8. It says, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, then you will be my witnesses….” The Lord showed me that there is a difference between having the Holy Spirit in you, and having the Holy Spirit come UPON you. Everyone has the Holy Spirit in them when are born again. However, when the Holy Spirit comes UPON you, you then receive the power. It’s the REACTION to the power of the Holy Spirit that gives us the ability to survive this supernatural battle that we face every day. The word “Tour” comes from the vision of having camps added to our calendar each year until RT is an actual tour around the world.
What was the most challenging thing about starting Reaction Tour?
Definitely, my AGE. The hardest thing about starting RT is the fact that I started it when I was 18. I had to become a leader. Being the youngest person on our team, it’s hard sometimes to get everyone to listen to me and accept that I am the leader. The Holy Spirit definitely stepped in and showed me that if I humble myself and turn the care of it onto Him, He would take care of it. And He did of course. (:
Do you ever feel like giving up, and if so, what keeps you going?
Yes. Sometimes I feel like everything would just be easier if I wasn’t putting these trips together. And the reality is, it would be easier if I wasn’t doing them. But “easy”, isn’t what’s important. When our hearts are in the right place and we are walking in obedience, everything is on Him. We have to remind ourselves that it’s not our job to actually heal, deliver, and minister to these kids, it’s His. We are just His hands and feet. When you take the cares and give them to Him, He will exalt you in due time (1 Peter 5). These kids’ hearts are worth the hard work. Walking in God’s plan for our lives is just the icing on the cake.
What advise would you give to our readers who are pursuing their God given dreams?
My advice is to, “Write out the revelation, put it on paper.” Habakkuk 2:2 When the Lord told me I was going to be doing RT, the first thing I did was sit with my grandfather and write out a prayer petition. We inquired of the Lord what we needed to put down, and I have been standing on it ever since!
What will Reaction Tour be doing in the upcoming year?
In the upcoming year, we will be going to the following countries:
1. Kampala, Uganda
2. Hyderabad, India
3. Juarez, Mexico
