The Greatest Opportunity
You know what I love most about Jesus’ life on this earth?
He lived for people.
Jesus loved people. Jesus healed people. Jesus blessed people. Jesus saved people. Jesus was all about the people.
Why does this impact me so much? Because I believe deep down that is a true desire within all of us. Why? Because when we believed and received the gift of Jesus, we took on His heart. His heart for people.
There are people, broken people, hurt people, lost people, dying people, who need what we have. A relationship with a loving heavenly Daddy.
Now please don’t misunderstand me, I am not saying they need religion. That is the very last thing they need. They don’t need to join a moral-based group of people to tell them what not to do. They need unconditional love and forgiveness. They need Jesus!
I’ll be honest, I have played it safe a good majority of my life. Go to church, talk about Jesus, love on people… all behind the doors of the church. But those days are long gone. Yes, I will still do all that within the church, but this is not limited to within the doors of my church. I’m not going to wait for people to come to me, I will be going to them.
Jesus said to be a “fisher of men”. I don’t believe He ever said anything just because it sounded good. With those three words, He was preaching a whole message…
Think about fishing for a moment with me. Is this something that you can do within the doors of your house, safely sitting on your couch? No! Fishing involves getting up from where you are, taking the time to prepare your equipment, going to where the fish are, and spending a whole lot of time waiting. But if you don’t give up, you will catch something.
When it comes to people, never give up. Jesus never did.
There is a hunger inside of me that won’t be appeased, and I believe it is in you as well. Something that won’t let us live life as normal any longer. We were meant to live this life in love and loved by a relentless Savior. We were also designed to share this message with all we come in contact with. Yes, all!
“And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.” Mark 16:15
This new year is a year full of opportunity. What would Jesus consider the greatest opportunity? People. Bringing more and more people into the family of God.
We won’t be doing this life on earth forever. We don’t need to waste our time playing it safe. Let’s live this life the way we were meant to – for Jesus and for those whom He loves.
“Christ’s love controls us. Since we believe that Christ died for all, we also believe that we have all died to our old life. He died for everyone so that those who receive his new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them.” 2 Corinthians 5:14-15
